Finding tough plants that are tolerant to foot traffic can be really tough. Many of us want something hardy, without sacrificing pretty looks. Keep reading for my favorite plants to cover your pathways with! I love these pathway plant ideas!

One of my favorite gardening blogs, Bless My Weeds (shoutout to Joy!) has a great article featuring some of the best step-able plants. She mentions that wooly thyme makes for a great ground cover.

Surround your pathway with Irish Moss for an incredibly tolerable pathway plant. The lush green of the moss makes an incredible backdrop! Learn how to grow Irish Moss here.

Blue Star Creeper is used by many gardeners to fill the spaces in between garden pathways. Be careful, though, this plant can only tolerate a low amount of foot traffic. Constant walking may harm the plant over time.

Mother of Thyme makes an impressive display in between walkway pavers. I love how the shades of these flowers make for a great contrast!

Alpine Moss makes for a thick ground cover that may bloom with white flowers in the Summer months. Alpine Moss loves dry climates, and since I reside in Utah, this is my favorite to landscape with!

Rosemary smells delicious, and is an oddly tolerant stepping-plant. The bright purple flowers last all season long and provide a welcome splash of color wherever they are planted. Bonnie Plants has a tutorial that will help get you started growing!

My grandma’s backyard had ice plant growing all over it! I loved to step and feel the squishy sensation as my toes sank. It’s great for stepping, and blooms throughout the year.
