Hanging Basket Trailers

July 5, 2019 by Jenny Leave a Comment

I am kind of addicted to hanging baskets. I have ones in my house that hold spilling houseplants, and ones on my porch to hold my favorite flowers. This year, when I put together my hanging baskets for my front porch, I made the point of choosing flowers that would spill or cascade over the sides of the baskets. And honestly, I love the look of it. Keep reading to see what the best flowers for hanging baskets are!

Hanging Basket Trailers

Fuschia
Fuschia is a seriously gorgeous flower, and it’s one of my favorite trailing flowers to work with. These plants are available in a variety of colors and grow well in zones 10-11. Additionally, gardeners should be wary that these plants are regularly infected with insects or pest. Apply neem oil regularly if your paint develops an infestation.
Tidal Wave Petunia

These beauties can grow, and grow, and grow! Because they grow so fast, I recommend planting them in hanging containers. This award willing flower is great for covering up anything unsightly in your yard, and it smells beautiful.

Impatiens
Impatiens are a great flower if you like varieties that gracefully spill over the sides of their containers. They’re also available in a variety of different colors and can grow in almost any zone just as long as it receives indirect sunlight all day long. This is one of the best flowers for hanging baskets.

Calibrachoa

If you thought that the Petunias grew fast, you haven’t seen a Calibrachoa plant in action! This plant can grow up to 12-14 inches in a single season! Place yours in a hanging container in an area of full sun. Soil should be kept moist, and foliage should be kept dry when watering. These are a great addition to any hanging basket.

Begonia
Just as long as your hanging pot has plenty of drainage, Begonias thrive with very little care. Place them in a corner of your porch that receives bright indirect light. Keep soil consistently moist, but not soggy for trailing flowers that grow fast.
Trailing Snapdragon
This trailing flower is a serious beauty! Not only will it spill out of your containers in an effortlessly beautiful way, but they’ll attach themselves around just about anything. I had a neighbor who had a wall covered in these beautiful trailing flowers, and it all started from a container!

Sweet Potato Vine

Sweet Potato Vine is one of the easiest plants to grow on this list and is one of the most colorful. Though this variety doesn’t produce any edible treats, it does give off bright foliage and spreads speedy quick. Keep containers in partial sun with well-draining soil.

Glory Flower
The Glory Flower is considered a perennial in tropical climates. In fact, after just one season of growth, you’ll be pleased to see blooms spilling over the sides of your containers. Bright, indirect sunlight with regularly moist soil are the best kinds of conditions for this flower. I just love this flower for hanging baskets!
Parrots Beak
Another tropical evergreen, the Parrots Beak flower gets his name because its small blossoms actually look like little bird beaks. These bright beauties like the weather hot, and love sporadic waterings even more. What’s best, this plant is considered deer resistant! Which is perfect if you live in an environment that has them. This pretty plant is also pretty resistant to diseases and other insects. Its perfect for your hanging basket!
