Tired of the cold weather in your neck of the woods? I completely understand! Around halfway through the winter here in Utah, I get desperate for some warmth and some pretty plants! That’s why I make it a point to visit the botanical garden in my area on a day when the winter weather is the worst. It’s great to enjoy the warm, humid greenhouses and its a really incredible break from the harsh weather. 5 Heartwarming Botanical Gardens To Visit (When It’s Freezing Where You Live)
New York Botanical Garden, New York
With gorgeous botanical gardens that expand for miles both outdoors and in, the New York Botanical Garden is the best place to spend a chilly afternoon. You can also rent out this space for an event or party. The natural scenery is so gorgeous that you won’t even need to bring any decorations.
Phipps Conservatory, Pittsburgh
Wander around the stunning displays at Phipps Conservatory in Pittsburgh. The entire garden is Victorian-style, so walking through the garden makes you feel like you have gone back in time. They even have special exhibits that rotate through the winter months, so there is always something new to see here.
United States Botanical Garden, Washington DC
This gorgeous conservatory was built in the 1930s by the same architect who designed the Capitol Building. The garden is located in the northern corner of the National Mall and tourists (and locals alike) rave about the incredible escape that this garden is. You’ll feel like you escaped to the tropics while visiting here.
Montreal Botanical Garden, Quebec
While you will have to break out your passport to visit this location, the Montreal Botanical Garden is one of Canada’s treasures. Since nothing grows in this region of Canada during the winter months, many citizens like to spend the days wandering around the botanical gardens. If you time your visit in the Spring, they have incredible living sculptures that you won’t see anywhere else.
Garfield Park Conservatory, Chicago
The windy city can be uh…especially windy come winter. If you are desperate to get out of the chilly Chicago wind, head to the Garfield Park Conservatory. Not only do they have acres of gorgeous flowers, but visitors can enjoy the citrus trees and banana trees as well. The best part is that admission here is free!
