It’s the middle of winter in my neck of the woods and the snow flurries are flying today! It’s days like today that I love to retreat to my garden room. Not only is it humid and warm in there, but all of the greenery makes it feel like it’s Spring again. Whether you build one onto your house or repurpose an existing room, here are a few gorgeous garden room ideas to help you get through the chill of winter.
Garden Room Ideas: Indoor
You can turn just about any room of your house into a garden room, provided that it has good windows, that is! Repaint your room a bright color like white or light blue that reflects the light back into the room. And after the paint has dried, all you have to do is place your favorite plants in the best areas for their growing needs. My favorite plants for indoor garden rooms is Snake Plants, Prayer Plants, and small cacti. Make sure that you stick a humidifier in the center of your room. Often times, indoor garden rooms aren’t nearly as humid as they should be!
Garden Room Ideas: Outdoor
The sky is the literal limit when it comes to creating your own outdoor garden room. To begin, you’ll need your own outdoor seating arrangement of some sort placed in the center of your yard or garden. I like to choose an area that has a gorgeous tree backdrop. Next, fill this outdoor space with tons of flowers, plants, and even herbs. The more the merrier, just make sure they can all survive in your outdoor environment. If you have walls in your outdoor garden room make sure you utilize a climbing trellis.

You may have thought that sunrooms were a thing of the past, but I am here to tell you that they are still a must-have in home design. These sunny conservatories are perfect for growing fruit and other citrus trees. Because it is attached to your home, they stay pretty warm in the winter months. Decorate your space with some plush chairs for comfort!
Garden Room Ideas: Interiors
The way that you design your garden room is just as important as the plants inside of it. You can create something rustic (take a look at the brick garden room below!), something a little more bohemian (it’s amazing what wooden furniture can do for a space) or go all white (this is very Victorian esque) and let the greenery do the talking. The ideas are endless!
