Plant Of The Apps

What if there was an app that could identify different plants for you? I had this very thought while looking at this beautiful Philodendron variety  at the grocery store the other day. I mentioned this thought to my daughter later in the evening, and she whipped out her phone to show me exactly what I had been looking for: an app that identifies plants for you! All I had to do was take a clear photo of it. Really! Learn more about these incredible plant identification apps below!

Plant Of The Apps

FlowerChecker
If you’re looking for a completely accurate way to identify various moss, plants, fungi, and flowers around you, use the flower checker app. This app is different than the others on this list because a team of certified botanists actually look over the photos to ensure that the identification is accurate. This app isn’t computer-based at all.

NatureGate
NatureGate’s plant database is small, and can only identify a plant if it’s one of the 700 species in its memory. But despite this, it’s one of my new favorite apps because it can identify other birds, fish, and butterflies in your area. Imagine how fun this app would be to take hiking!
PlantSnapp
Another handy app, the PlantSnapp allows you to take photos of any plant for identification. Once identified, it will give you advice when it comes to the plant’s necessary care. Plus, it will even tell you where to purchase the plant locally! I think this app could be a little dangerous if I got my hands on it, I’d be tempted to buy every plant that I saw!

Leafsnap
If you are specifically looking for a tree identifier, I highly recommend checking out Leafsnap! This handy app identifies various species of trees through photos of their leaves. They have even partnered with the Natural History Museum to broaden their library.
LikeThat Garden
LikeThat Garden is a bit different from the other apps on this list because it allows users to submit a photo, and then scroll through other photos to find a plant match. Once found, it will provide you with care tips as well as potential pairings for your garden.
