Should a Spirea be cut back and if so should it be done in the fall or spring?

      Hey!

So it actually depends on the grow season. Here are the general guidelines I follow: In the spring, I trim back the buds immediately following the first blossoms. This helps promote new blossoms and growth throughout the blossoming season. Mid summer, I’ll see if it’s necessary to cut back any overgrowth. If not, I’ll leave the heavy pruning until later. Once the foliage has fallen off in the fall, you can cut back branches and stems to about 8 inches. Now is a good time to remove any dead or damaged branches!
