If you aren’t growing soapwort, you definitely should be! Soapwort flowers come in a variety of different colors, and adapt well to a variety of climates and environments. Grow in rock crevasies or pots for an unbeatable pop of color! Begin growing soapwort today!
Grow Zone: Start growing soapwort in zones 3-9.
Water and Sun Needs: Does best in areas of partial to full sun. Water infrequently. Soapwort doesn’t tolerate overly wet soil.
Average Size: Size varies from 1 inch to 3 feet in height and 6-30 inches wide.
Plant Type: Perennial
Special Features: Does well in containers and has lovely cut flowers. Birds love soapwort!
How to Get Started: It is best to sow seeds directly into garden during late Spring. Choose an area of full sun and make sure that the soil is well-draining. Because the size varies so greatly, place plants at least a foot apart. Expect to see plant sprouts in as little as 3 weeks!
When to Harvest: Harvest as you see fit throughout the growth season. Gardeners can use soapwort leaves to make their own homemade soap. I loved this how-to article!
What to Plant It With: Veronica, Balloon Flower, Blazing Star, Helenium.
