Looking for a plant that thrives in areas where pests run rampant? Look no further…the Licorice plant is exactly the backdrop you need in your flower garden. It’s stunning…AND pest resistant!
Grow Zone: Does best in zones 9-11.
Water and Sun Needs: Water the soil when the first two inches of the soil are dry. Test with your finger. This plant loves areas of partial to full sun.
Average Size: Can be 1-3 feet tall, and 1-2 feet wide.
Plant Type: Annual or perennial. This depends on the variety chosen, and the grow environment.
Special Features: The fuzz on the leaves protect this plant from any pests or fungal diseases. It’s relatively low maintenance, and grows really well in containers!
How to Get Started: I recommend growing this plant in a large, tall pot. Make sure that the soil doesn’t get too damp..or the Licorice roots will likely rot. This plant doesn’t need much fertilization, and it’s actually recommended that you don’t fertilize. If you live in a hot area, you may find that your plant needs to be watered more than once daily. As always, test the soil with your finger.
When to Harvest: Do not expect a harvest from this plant.
What to Plant It With: Licorice plants can display small white flower blooms making it a perfect accent to any flower garden or landscape. The dark green foliage also make this a great backdrop plant.
