Looking to bring a touch of the tropics to your garden landscaping? Look no further than the surprisingly tolerant and super tough Hibiscus flower. Start growing hibiscus flower today!
Grow Zone: Grow in zones 4-9.
Water and Sun Needs: Due to their tropical roots, plant in an area of full sun. Your plant will need daily watering in warm weather.
Average Size: Expect your plants to get from 3-8 feet tall and 3-5 feet tall.
Plant Type: Perennial.
Special Features: These flowers are gorgeous and incredibly low maintenance. Use the cut flowers to make a flower crown or other crafts. Birds also love these flowers, so pull up a chair and get to bird watching!
How to Get Started: Keep your plants in areas of full sun, and make sure that your soil is well draining. Flowers need frequent watering, but make sure that they aren’t “sitting” in soggy soil. You don’t even need fertilizer to make your perennials look great, but a dosage here and there will help promote big, beautiful blooms.
When to Harvest: You can cut your blooms to display as cut flowers whenever you feel like it, but don’t expect flowers to bloom until late May or June. This is normal, and late blooming shrubs like this will give you blooms to enjoy until late fall.
What to Plant It With: Start growing hibiscus with Joe Pye weed, Turtlehead, and Miscanthus.
