1 Brighten up your home in the winter by growing Cyclamen! Grown indoors, Cyclamen lays dormant in the summer but blooms beautifully in the winter. Here’s how you can start growing cyclamen today!
2 Grow Zone: Grow plants in zones 8-9.
3 Water and Sun Needs: Grown indoors, keep in an eastern or western window. Water when the soil appears dry.
4 Average Size: About 9 inches wide and 6-12 inches tall.
5 Plant Type: Tuberous perennial
6 Special Features: Great for indoor gardening, low maintenance, great for containers.
7 How to Get Started: This plant has the opposite growth cycle as normal plants. It blooms in the winter and goes dormant in the summer. Cyclamen loves cool temperatures, but you should keep it away from windows when temperatures are below freezing. It likes sunlight, but the heat will make it go dormant. Keep it in a western or easter window. When leaves turn yellow, the plant is dormant. DO NOT place it in an area of more sun. Expect the plant to bloom again when temperatures turn cold. Water regularly, and only when soil appears dry.
8 When to Harvest: This plant is poisonous! Do not harvest!
9 What to Plant It With: Other low maintenance indoor plants like Bromelaid or Fittonia.
