1 Considered a tropical flower, Canna lilly is a great gardening idea. Because they’re little and can fit into small spaces, it’s a great container gardening idea. This is one of my favorite flowers and I plan on growing the Canna in my flower garden this year! You can’t miss a garden idea like this!
2 Grow Zone: This plant grows best in zones 9-11.
3 Water and Sun Needs: Partial sun to full sun. 1 inch of water is recommended per week.
4 Average Size: 1 to 8 feet tall, 3 feet wide.
5 Plant Type: Bulb. Perennial.
6 Special Features: Canna smells delicious, it’s great for containers and is extremely low maintenance.
7 How to Get Started: Plant bulbs about 2 to 3 inches in the ground, with the pointy eye up. Cover with soil. Plant in the fall for the best results. After planting, soak the soil thoroughly with water. After the first week, canna plants should receive about an inch of water per-week.
8 When to Harvest: Gardeners shouldn’t expect an edible harvest for the plant, but you can expect it to make it’s appearence in early Spring!
9 What to Plant It With: Plant and start growing canna with chilean jasmine and princess flowers.

Cannas are so beautiful and hummingbirds love them! I wanted to point out that there are two new All-America Selection Winners that are cannas from seed. They are easy to grow at home and flower the first year!
They are Canna South Pacific Orange – bit.ly/orangecanna and Canna South Pacific Scarlet – bit.ly/cannascarlet

Do you have to uproot every fall and store in a dry, cool place? Or can they be cut down and left in the ground for the winter?
