Grow Zone: You can begin growing spinach in almost any environment.

Water and Sun Needs: Grow in areas of partial to full sun. Provide plants with an inch of water per week.

Average Size: Plants will get to be about 6 inches to 3 feet tall, and 3-15 inches wide.

Plant Type: Vegetable

Special Features: Edible, easy to care for, EXTREMELY cold hardy.

How to Get Started: Start seeds as soon as you can! Start spinach seeds 6 weeks before the last frost date. When sowing, sow seeds 1/2 inches into the ground, and space them about 12 inches apart. It is important that enough space is left between plants because they do grow big and rapidly! Make sure young spinach plants are getting at least an inch of water in the springtime, as this will determine how well they harvest later on.

When to Harvest: Harvest spinach whenever you would like! As soon as it is big enough to eat, it should be harvested. Harvest regularly for continuity throughout the grow season!

What to Plant It With: Other cold-hardy vegetables like kale, leeks, and onions. Add carrots to your spinach garden as well!
