I am an extremely avid tea drinker. In fact, I drink a cup of hot tea every morning before I get my kids off to school! There’s something about tea that gives a better jolt than a cup of extremely caffeinated coffee. I usually just toss my used tea bags in the trash, but I had no idea that you could use tea bags in the garden! Keep reading to see how to use teabags in garden!
1. Composting
Add tea bags to your compost for an instant dose of nitrogen. You can put used tea bags directly into your compost pile, unless they contain plastic. If so, you will need to cut open the tea bag and place the tea leaves directly onto your pile.
2. Get Rid of Pests
Get rid of pests with a healthy dose of tea! Brew a weak batch of tea, and use it to water your plants. It gets rid of fungal pests AND adds a healthy dose of nutrients to your garden plants. It’s a win-win!
3. Use Them As Plant Food
Really! Tea leaves make FANTASTIC plant food. Cut open your used tea bags and disperse the tea leaves around the base of your plants. The tea leaves will add a dose of much needed nitrogen to your garden.
4. Houseplant Food
Not only do tea bags add a dose of nitrogen to your garden plants, they also nourish and feed your houseplants! If you have a houseplant that LOVES acidic soil, open up a tea bag and spread it around the plant’s stem. Doing this will help to lower P.H. levels. Perfect, huh? You have to add teabags in garden!
5. Feed Your Roses
You might have already added tea leaves to your garden and your compost pile, but have you thought about using them as Rose fertilizer? Split open your tea bags and sprinkle the tea leaves around the base of your Rose bushes. They love tea leaves, and you’ll definitely notice it when you notice your gorgeous blossoms!
6. Speed Up Your Compost Pile
We knew that old tea bags were a fantastic addition to your backyard compost pile, but did you know that tea bags actually speed up the composting process? Seriously! Brew a strong batch of tea and pour the liquid over your compost piles, the nitrogen boost will help speed up the decay of your compost pile, so you can use it faster. Once decayed, the added nitrogen will help nourish your plants and keep them healthy. Speed up composting by adding teabags in garden or compost soil!

But not the teabag from Lipton. Thes are not organic but plastic. After composting you have plastic bags you must remove!

Can you put used ginger tea bags in garden or compost? Or will it attract critters?

My mum always emptied her teapot around her roses- she was a fantastic gardener. So I dry tea bags and then the tea can be emptied from the bags and stored until needed (free from the bag). My roses are laden with blooms and the leaves look healthy too!
