Seed starting is one of my very favorite aspects of gardening! There’s something so satisfying about planting a seed in soil, and watching your hard work literally “bloom” before your eyes. Like many gardeners, I prefer to start my seeds inside to protect them from any harsh weather we may be having. Instead of purchasing seed starting pods at the store (I was at Target earlier this week and saw some there for a dollar a piece!) I figured I would just make my own!
DIY Kraft Paper Planter Bag from Grillo Designs
Kraft paper and contact paper are all you need to make these really cool (and completely waterproof!) DIY paper planters. You don’t have to use Kraft paper, but it is what’s recommended from Medina at Grillo Designs. I’m in love with both the functionality and the look of these!
Paper Seedling Pots from The Prairie Homestead
Turn pieces of old (and maybe even unread!) newspapers into really awesome DIY seed-starting pods. You will need a glass cup, or something similar, to shape the planters, but you’ll be amazed at how simple these are! Want to know the best part? You only need two pieces of tape per-planter to make these. Which is definitely good news in my house, where tape is definitely one of the harder things to come by!
Origami Seedling Pots from For Greenies
Channel your inner artist (or folding master, whichever) and pour your energy into these repurposed seedling pots from For Greenies. These seedling pots biodegrade over time, so they can be transplanted directly to the garden without having to remove them from their pots. This is less traumatizing for the plants!
