The New Year is only a few months away, and you know what that means! We are EVEN closer to the start of the 2018 gardening season. I just pulled in the last of my harvest from the summer season, and I’m already itching to get my Spring seeds sown. With the new year comes a new set of gardening trends, here are the ones that I’m most looking forward to!
Hanging Bamboo Baskets
Hanging baskets have ALWAYS been a thing, but what about coco planters? They help your plant retain water better, AND they create beautiful texture wherever they’re hung. You can purchase them here!
Macrame? You Betcha!
The Macrame trend is making a big statement in regards to home decor. But what about in the garden? Weave your own Macrame terra cotta pot hangers. This certainly makes your space look more interesting, doesn’t it? Purchase these here.
Plants Do Better in Colonies
Seriously! Plants do better when grown in large ecosystems. Instead of just planting one variety per container, plant many plants that look (and thrive) with your planted varieties. The more, the merrier in this case!
Practice Wabi-Sabi
What exactly is Wabi-Sabi? It’s only the ancient Japanese gardening method! The Wabi-Sabi method celebrates the imperfections in life, and displays them in the garden. Repurpose what you can, and use it in your garden to achieve this kind of zen space.
Grow Your Own Protein
Really! It’s just as easy as growing anything else! Grow your own quinoa, corn, or kale. If you’re a vegan, growing your own protein may be just the thing for you and your health. Learn how to do so here.
Small Gardening Is Still King
Small gardening trends are still making a huge statement this year. First appearing in 2007, gardeners everywhere have been embracing their small gardens for more than a decade. Don’t forget to embrace yours! Use vertical gardening or containers to make the most of what you’ve got going on in your yard.
Dine Outdoors
If you’ve got the space! Create an outdoor dining room, tucked under a tree or a large pergola. Make the space your own relaxing oasis. You’ll love having something like this so close to home! Make a pergola yourself with this tutorial from Bless My Weeds.
Become One With the Bees
Over the last few years, gardeners everywhere are noticing the decline in both honeybees and birds. This year, create a space perfect for the birds and the bees! Plant honeybee friendly flowers, and both the bees and the birds will flock! Here’s an article that will help you decide which bee-friendly plants to garden with.
Succulents are Savvy
Succulents are savvy, and always will be! Succulents are extremely low maintenance, and so beautiful to decorate, and create container gardens with. Learn to care for your succulents here.
Creative Craftsmanship
You’ve heard of craftsmanship in your home, right? But what about your garden! This year, experiment with craftsmanship of your own variety! Bring craftsmanship to your own backyard by building your own lattices or pergolas. Learn to build your own pergola here!
