Isn’t it annoying when all of your hard gardening work gets ruined by a wild animal or heavy feet? I lost almost all of my bell pepper sprouts this season due to a heavy animal walking through my garden and I’ve truly never been so upset! I knew then that I needed some garden fence ideas!
Prior to this point, I hadn’t been interested in a garden fence (I didn’t want anything obstructing the view from my kitchen!) but after this incident, I knew that enough was enough! If you, like me, are tired of animals eating your plants or your kids walking through your vegetables, it’s probably time to build a DIY garden fence. Here are a few of my garden fence ideas:
If you always dreamed of a white picket fence surrounding your garden but wanted something a little less cliche; check out this white fence set! It’s one of my favorite garden fence ideas. I was a fan of this one because of the columns surrounding the gate opening. They just make everything look a little more classy and high end! Check out that hardware, too!
Vegetable Garden Fence Ideas
If you need height to protect your veggies, try a DIY garden fence like this! Gardeners can put together something similar with 2×4 pieces of wood and 4×4 blocks for the fence posts. Line the gaps in the fence with a bit of chicken wire found at a local hardware store. The best part about this DIY fence project is that it’s completely customizable; you can make it as high (or as short) as you would like!
DIY
Do you already have a great garden fence and it just needs a little love? Update yours with a bit of black and white paint so it looks like a piano. Your neighbors will know that this is the backyard where all the best parties happen! Make sure you pick a brand of paint that is water resistant!
Painted Garden Fence Ideas
Or…instead of painting your garden fence like a piano, go the multicolored route instead! Group your fence posts in sections of three, and paint each section a different color. This DIY garden fence idea is a surefire way to brighten up a boring backyard. Again, just make sure you pick a water-resistant brand. No one wants to look at a fence of peeling paint!
This garden fence idea is just a little bit more complex than another idea I’d mentioned. Doesn’t it look high end? To make, you will use pieces of 2x4s to complete the framing and attach a length of chicken wire. If you choose to stain your fence, I recommend doing so before you attach the chicken wire. It makes it so incredibly difficult to paint! You can purchase a fence set similar to these on Amazon (here) but they’re a bit smaller and they don’t look as finished!
Pallet Fence Ideas
Last, but not least is a great recycling idea. I’m all about recycling so this pallet garden fence is the best upcycling use for a pallet that I can think of. I love the look. A pallet garden fence is both attractive and environmentally friendly!
