I love attracting birds to my garden! They’re so much fun to watch and I absolutely love admiring the unique coloring of the different varieties. Because I love the sweet birdies so much, I’m always looking for unique and innovative ways to make them feel at home in my garden. A great way to do just that is by hanging a bundt pan on your door to function as a DIY bird feeder AND a wreath. See how to make your own bundt pan bird feeders with my tutorial below.
Here’s what you’ll need for your own bird feeder wreath:
-A bundt pan
-4 cups of mixed bird seed (whatever variety works best for you!)
-3 tablespoons of corn syrup
-Gelatin (I used a packet and a half!)
-1/3 cup of cornstarch
-1/2 cup warm water
-Seasonal ribbon (I’m going with a baby blue variety for mine!)
Step One: Before beginning the project, spray your bundt pan with a layer of non-stick spray. Place aside until the end of the recipe. Next, set aside your measured bird seed.
Step Two: Over medium heat, whisk together the gelatin and all of your warm water. The gelatin should be fully dissolved before moving on.
Step Three: Next, add the cornstarch and the corn syrup and whisk together until the cornstarch has fully dissolved and is smooth. There should be no lumps.
Step Four: Keep whisking the mixture together until a thick paste begins to form. Again, whisk until your mixture is completely smooth. There should be no lumps, here, either! This will affect the look and outcome of your finished project.
Step Five: First, spray a mixing spoon or spatula with non-stick spray. Then, pull the saucepan off the heated stove and mix in the pre-measured birdseed with a spatula covered in non-stick spray.
Step Six: When thoroughly mixed, evenly pour the birdseed and gelatin mixture into your bundt pan. Take care to ensure that your mixture has been poured into the pan evenly!
Step Seven: Next, use your hands to tightly pack the birdseed mixture into your metal bundt pan. Once packed, place the pan in the freezer for an hour. The mixture should be hard to the touch. It took me about an hour to get my birdseed this consistency, but it may take you a bit longer.
Step Eight: Once fully hardened, take your wreath out of the refrigerator and remove the seed from the pan and set on a drying rack. This can be done by flipping the pan upside down and then slowly lifting the pan. Let the wreath sit and dry for 24 hours before moving on.
Step Nine: After the allotted drying time has passed, you can tie your wreath with ribbon and hang it wherever you would like outside! I’ve hung it from my deck before!
