I love my little chickens and all of the eggs they produce. I feel like a farm girl heading outside in the mornings to check for eggs, and I would have it no other way. The addition of chicken has been cost effective for my family over the years, though coops are expensive up front, they pay off in due time. We’ve been selling the eggs to neighbors for years, and we bring in a decent amount of money. Not only that, but I really prefer our own eggs over store bought ones. Because I’m unsure of the conditions these store-chickens are kept in, it makes me hesitant to purchase eggs laid by them. However, with an at-home coop, I know right away that my chickens are kept in healthy conditions. And their eggs really taste so much better! Due to the neighborhood demand (and our own) we’ve expanded our coop this year. Meaning, it was time for a large (more sturdy) chicken coop. Here are a few of my favorite stylish chicken coop designs!
Small Chicken Coop
I love the chicken coop idea below from Ana White! It even comes complete with a planter, clean out tray, and a nesting box. The chickens housed in this beautiful chicken coop will be the most popular on the street. However, you will need to head to the hardware store as tons of 2x4s are needed for this DIY. Make sure you don’t forget the chicken wire! Isn’t this one of the prettiest chicken coops you’ve ever seen?
Large Chicken Coop
If you have tons of outdoor space to work with, try your hand at this stylish chicken coop idea from How to Build It! See if you can use what scrap wood you have before heading off to the store, as all of this plywood could be pricey. Though I would cover mine in a shade of bright red paint, I really love the size of this chicken coop. The open area is quite expansive too, giving the chickens more room to run. Upcycled Coop
Virtually every aspect of the chicken coop below has been salvaged from leftover supplies from a home improvement project. Because the cement pillars keep the chicken coop so up and out of the way, it would be great in areas with a snake or other pest problems. However, if your coop is as open as this one, make sure it is fenced in SOMEHOW. Believe it or not, chickens like to run off! Learn more about above ground chicken coops here.
Small Chicken Coop Shed
I loved this small chicken coop from Ana White so much that I could not resist sharing! I love how traditional this looks. Not only did the DIY genius behind this project complete it in less than 30 hours (yes, really. I’m unbelievably impressed as well) but she used recycled materials, too! The shutters and the window were all reclaimed! Learn more here.
