Fall Window Box Decorating Ideas Everyone Will Fall For

I would have never considered putting squash from my garden into a window box, but it looks absolutely amazing here! Line your window box with hay or straw and then fill it with different varieties of fall squash from your garden. You could even incorporate fall flowers into your boxes like the DIYer did below. Just as long as you stick to a general color scheme, just about anything looks good.

 

Every time I see Mums in the beautiful dark red color below, I can’t help but think of the Fall. Fill your window boxes with live, tall mums all in the same color. Decide if you want to use cut flowers (these will have a drastically shorter shelf life) or if you want to grow your own. Plant seeds early in the year if you want to plant your own. Otherwise, head to your local nursery for a few baskets and then trim as needed. Look at how stunning this red contrast looks paired with everything else in the photo! This window box arrangement definitely screams fall and I can’t get enough of it.

 

I love how the gardener below took large-leafed foliage and made it look like it was cascading down this window box. For a similar look in your own home, I recommend using fall-foliage like ornamental kale or cabbage (you can eat it and it looks BEAUTIFUL), purple fountain grasses, and even a sweet potato vine!
