Every year when I plow my garden rows, I am amazed at how many rocks I end up digging up. And no matter how many I removed from my garden beds the year before, there always seems to be more. I swear that this year left me with more stones than I knew what to do with. But what is one to do with all of these rocks in your garden? Surely there must be something better than sticking them all in a pile to later burden the garbage man with? There is. Just take a look at these design ideas using rocks in your garden!
What To Do With All Those Rocks In Your Garden
Pebble Path
If you keep finding a lot of the same shape and size of rocks, collect them all to create a “pebble pathway” across a section of your backyard. You’ll need a lot of rocks, sure, but this small addition makes any backyard seem a little more magical.
Rock Garden
If it’s the larger boulders that you are looking for a solution to, place all of them in one corner of your yard. Place them strategically around one another so that you can grow a variety of plants and flowers between the cracks in the rocks. I seriously just love this idea!
As Filler
Use small pebbles and other small rocks to fill in the gaps between your garden pavers.
Patterned Rock Mosaic
If there’s one garden design idea that I love, it’s using rocks to create incredible patterned mosaics. To create your own, first, divide rocks by their color and then design your patterned mosaic from there. I find it best to go with a general design of what you want!
A Garden Fountain
Use this tutorial and some of the rocks found in your garden to create a small drip garden fountain. You’ll only need a few extra things (like a small water pump and a water catch system) but those can be found pretty inexpensively at just about any hardware store.

I found your suggestion to be quite lovely when you told us to consider building a pebble pathway across a section of our backyard since this addition will make our garden appear a little more magical. My new residential property in Raymond Terrace has a beautiful backyard garden, and I was thinking of adding hardscaping features to it to help heighten its aesthetic, which was why I was considering building a rock garden. I’ll keep this in mind while I look for a landscape supplier to contact about the white pebbles I’ll be needing soon.
