Getting and maintaining a green lawn can sometimes seem like an impossible challenge. However, it’s definitely a good goal to aim for. Here are some great tips and tricks to help you get that green lawn that will make all your neighbors jealous!
1/3 Rule
Believe it or not, there are actually some rules to how short or long you should cut your grass. If you don’t cut much, then it’s kind of pointless to mow the lawn. However, if you cut too much then it can do damage to the grass and cause growth problems. The rule most people follow is to cut no more than 1/3 of the grass blade at a time. This will keep the grass strong and maintain its rich color.
Sharp Blades
Make sure that your lawn mower actually has sharp blades. Dull blades will rip and tear at your grass instead of cleaning slicing it. This hacking can cause your grass to get damaged and, therefore, not look as green and healthy.
Fertilizer
Fertilizing is an essential part of making sure your lawn is as green as possible. However, where you live, what kind of grass you have, and other factors will influence what fertilizer you should use, how much of it, and how often. Do some research online and at your local nursery to figure out the best plan.
Deep Watering
The best way to water your grass is deeply and infrequently. Some people think it’s good to water a little bit everyday, but that doesn’t allow water to get to the deepest roots. Instead, water every three days. Follow the rule of one inch of water for every 12 inches of soil.
Test Soil
Lastly, if you do all these things and still can’t get your lawn as green as you want it to be, then consider getting your soil tested. There are a few different ways to do this, but it’s definitely a surefire method to know what’s wrong with your soil and what treatments will best help it get healthy.
