Container gardening is great for those of you with little space to work with. Given the right size pot and the right amount of sunlight, you can grow almost any fruit in a container! I’ve grown berries in containers for years, and these are my must-know container gardening tips!
Perfect for zones 3-11, the strawberry is relatively easy to grow. Grow them in balcony pots, or from hanging baskets, all they needs is ample sunlight and water to grow. Oh, and 20 centimeters of spacing between each plant!
You’ll need enough space to house a 5 gallon planter when growing blackberries in containers! And you’ll have to purchase stakes to support your berry bush while growing. However, you’ll be amazed at the outputting of berries!
Keep soil EXTREMELY moist when growing a raspberry plant, and in an area of high sunlight. Regularly feed soil with fertilizer for healthier berries throughout the grow season. Grow in zones 3-10 and move the plant indoors come chilly weather. Transplant the gojiberry as it grows because it ceases to grow when it starts to outgrow it’s container.
Good drainage is the key to a healthy black currant plant, as is growing it in a warm environment! Harsh frosts can stop this plant from producing the kind of berries you want.
Much like the other berries on the list, gooseberries love the sun, and moist (but well draining) soil. It’s true that garden sown gooseberries have to be planted at a certain time of year. But container grown ones can be started whenever the weather permits! Gooseberries are the perfect for container gardening for beginners.
Though you’ll have to care for these plants for three years before they start producing fruit, you’ll love them when they do! You’ll need an extremely large container to cultivate this for three years, because the bush can get to be 12 feet tall. Acai grows best in a warm and tropical environment.
