1 If you aren’t growing catmint already, you should be! Catmint is a gorgeous addition to almost any garden landscape! Start growing catmint today!
2 Grow Zone: Grow in zones 3-9.
3 Water and Sun Needs: This plant loves areas of partial to full sun. It’s best to keep plants well watered (water when the first 3 inches of soil is dry) during the first year of growth. After the first year, these plants are known to be quite drought tolerant.
4 Average Size: Expect plants to get to be about 6 to 8 feet tall and approximately 12 to 36 inches wide.
5 Plant Type: Perennial.
6 Special Features: They often bloom twice in a grow season. Expect a fall and a spring bloom. Catmint plants are attractive to deer and will grow to be drought resistant once mature.
7 How to Get Started: Plant in the spring. Use cuttings or grow it from seed, but start seed propagation (or just general planting) after the final frost in your area. Space your seeds or cuttings at least a foot apart because this plant needs plenty of room to grow. They do best when contained by edging or a container. Use mulch to help the soil retain water and keep weeds away. Deadhead blooms if you feel it gets to be too bushy.
8 When to Harvest: Catmint is not a perennial that you should expect a harvest from. You can cut the blooms if desired, for a vase, but I tend to think that they die off too quickly…and the petals get everywhere!
9 What to Plant It With: Plant with Bee Balm, peonies, and Loosestrife.

  2. Is that a typo on the size? They definitely don’t get 6 to 8 feet tall! Different varieties can be taller than others, but I’ve never come across one that’s larger than ~2ft / 24″ height…
