8 Self-Watering DIY Gardening Tools

You’ll never forget to water your plants again with these self-watering DIY gardening tools! EVERY gardener needs one of these gardening tools.

Rinse out an empty wine bottle, fill with water and stick the neck in the soil a few inches deep, and you won’t have to worry about watering your plants again. At least, for awhile!

Cut 20 – 30 holes into a plastic water bottle and place it near the roots of your plant and fill to the brim of the bottle with water. This is for a plant that needs more water than usual.

 These make the wine bottle watering tip even easier, all you have to do is place the neck into the container. Bravo for a job well done!

 Remember when you were a kid and you’d tie a string to 2 cups and talk to each other? Well your plants like to have conversations too.

You’ll need a few clay pots, some PVC and a 2 liter bottle to create this DIY sprinkler system. Dig up a few inches of soil and place your newly made rig down. Be sure to bury it. Cheap and easy!

 For a plant that doesn’t need too much water, cut off the tops of two milk cartons, put water in one, and place the carton with the soil inside of that. While the water never directly comes into contact with the soil, the cartons slowly absorb water from one another.

 Take a container filled with water and tie a rope to the bottom of your plant container, creating a “whick.” Feed the rope into the container full of water. This technique has been used to water plants for centuries.

Finally! My favorite self watering hack! You know those two liter soda bottles that seem to over take your recycling can? Finally, put them to good use! Using an exacto knife, cut the bottles in half. Fill the bottom half with water, and place the top end upside down. It should just graze the water. Fill the top half with soil, and your favorite plant!
