Growing Microgreens Indoors Ideas
1. First, determine what kind of microgreens you are going to be growing. Fortunately, a variety of vegetables such as lettuce, kale, spinach, watercress, mustard, and chia seeds can all be grown relatively easily. Pick a variety of vegetables to grow for your microgreens. Variety is always good.
2. If you wanted to get started growing microgreens but really aren’t sure where to begin, I recommend picking up a growing kit from Amazon. They’re pretty inexpensive and come with everything (including detailed instructions!) to grow them yourself.
3. Having the right lighting is essential for healthy microgreens. But if you don’t have a southern facing window, they may not be getting enough. I recommend growing a small grow light from Amazon and using it to add supplemental lighting to your growing environment. You can find one for under $20 and it really does help keep your plants healthy.

4. If you’re short on space but want to try your hand at growing a TON of microgreens, I recommend building your own shelving space. You can attach the lights to the undersides of the shelving units, and you can really STACK the greens in. I have a friend who grows microgreens on cookie sheets, and she can fit 8 sheets on her shelving unit. It’s pretty impressive.
5. Additionally, I love the idea of creating a little windowsill garden with old mugs and tons of microgreens. Line them up on your windowsill so they get plenty of sun throughout the day and make sure they are regularly watered because microgreens are susceptible to underwatering.
To grow microgreens at home, put an inch or two of soil into a dish, cookie sheet, or similar tray. Scatter the seeds over the top of the soil and mist regularly with water. Harvest them in about two weeks when the sprouts are about 1-2 inches tall.
