Did anyone else faint when they glanced at their calendar over the weekend and saw that it’s OCTOBER?! How insane! Where did the year go? I’m about to harvest the last of my summer crops, and I’m eagerly looking ahead to more winter gardening projects! I’ve had a mason jar herb garden on my kitchen windowsill for as long as I can remember, and I’ve gotten so many compliments on it over the years that I’ve decided to share it with all of you! Creating a mason jar herb garden is extremely easy, you’ll only need a few common items for these herb garden ideas.

Seed Packets for your favorite herbs (I grow Basil, Thyme, and Mint)

An area with TONS of sunlight!
Step 1: Label each mason jar with the herb you desire to grow. Labeling this early in the process will help with plant confusion later on! How alarming would it be to realize you’re growing parsley instead of mint where you thought you were?
Step 2: Fill your mason jar almost fully with your chosen brand of potting soil (I swear by Miracle Grow!)
Step 3: After your mason jars are full of soil, sprinkle in herb seeds that correspond with the labeling on your jar.
Step 4: Sprinkle an additional layer of soil on top of your seeds, and water slightly.
Step 5: Wait for your herbs to grow! The grow time depends on the variety of seeds chosen, but you can expect many herbs to sprout in about 7-14 days. In just a months time, you can begin harvesting your herbs for their flavorful benefits!
