This homemade insect repellent works wonders! It will protect your plants and flowers from all sorts of critters. It is so much more cost effective to make it from home too! It also is really natural and avoids harsh chemicals. It’s a win-win all around!
This is what insects can do to your garden! Yikes! To avoid this problem, and many others, make some insect spray. You will need the following:
- 2 whole heads of garlic (Make sure to separate and peel the cloves)
- 3 cups of mint leaves (with stems)
- 2 tsp. dry cayenne pepper
- 12 cups of water
- 2 small squirts of biodegradable dish washing liquid
Add your garlic and the mint to a food processor and make sure to pulse it for a few seconds. Once you’ve done that, you’ll want to transfer your mixture to a large pot. In the pot with the garlic and mint, add the cayenne pepper and 12 cups water. Bring your pot to a boil.
After your mixture has finished boiling, remove it from the heat. Then let it sit overnight. The next day, strain your mixture into some spray bottles and add the two drops of your biodegradable dish washing liquid.
When you are ready to use your spray, shake it well in your bottle (and before each use after) and then spray it on your plants. Make sure to get the undersides of your plants as well. Wait a few days, and then see if you need to apply more, but usually just once will do the trick. You’ll be insect free!
