Use these kid gardening projects to teach your kiddos the ins and outs of garden care!
Teach them to water, properly! Mist for the garden, shower for the plants. It’s also a good idea to wet soil a few days before you plant, for maximum growth!
Checking on your plants daily can be implemented into daily chores, just like anything else!
In addition to watering, if you have multiple children, have them water their own plants. Plants love competition!
Being a part of harvest day is what its all about! Have your kids help you pick the fruits and vegetables that they worked so hard to grow!
Blueprinting the garden is fun for the adults and young engineers alike! Have kids “sketch” out their plans for the garden. Make it a fun afternoon activity by having them color their sketch when done.
Have them enjoy the fruits, I mean vegetables… of their labor by picking and helping prepare dinner.
Potting flowers is extremely easy to do and it teaches responsibility.
Building an elevated garden is something the little ones sure can help with. Let them hammer a nail or two, cut boards, help measure, etc.
Getting their friends together for some gardening is a sure way to increase the fun! Invite the neighborhood kids over for an afternoon of potting, or planting.
Have them each pick out their own varities of plants, and take before and after photos on their (or your, depending on their age) smartphones.
Watering during outside play is a great way to incorporate being healthy and responsible. Plus, how much fun would this be on a warm day?
What kid doesn’t like to play in dirt?! Show them how to be productive while getting dirty. It’s a win-win for you both!
Finally, labeling plants and flowers is a great kids gardening project for the little ones still learning the differences between the different varities of flowers.
