Gardening can be a great way to relieve stress and spend time with your loved ones. If you find yourself hoping and praying that your kid’s will share the love of gardening with you, spark their interest and get them growing these great plants!
1. Sunflowers
Kid’s can’t resist the bright and tall sunflower. Some varieties even grow up to twelve feet tall! Not only do they look great, but your kids will surely enjoy the delicious sunflower seeds!
2. Poppies
Famous for the scene in the Wizard of Oz, poppies look stunning and are surprisingly easy to grow. They require little to no water, perfect for your little ones to manage!
3. Peas
Growing vegetables can be an extremely rewarding adventure, you get to eat what you grow! These veggies can be planted indoors, but will then need to be moved outside once they are large enough.
4. Strawberries
Much like peas, strawberries are an easy (and rewarding) plant for your kids to help grow. Imagine how fun it would be to look around for the berries!
5. Radishes
Radishes sprout quickly for the young gardener. Most germinate in 3-10 days, and you will receive the fruits of your labor in approximately 20-30 days. Perfect for a quick lesson in gardening!
6. Carrots
Carrots are one of the best plants for kids to help grow. Carrots prefer cool temperatures, and mature in about 30 days. It is crucial that the soil is free of rocks so the carrots have room to grow. Plus, there are many varieties to grow! Time to pick a favorite!
7. Pumpkins
One of the most fun vegetables to grow in a child’s garden. Pumpkins sprout quickly, and vines will begin to form. Be sure to cut off any excess blossoms, or you will find yourself with a garden full of nothing but pumpkins!

8. Cucumbers
Even though your kid’s may not like cucumbers, they might love pickles. Regardless, cucumbers are great.

9. Gourds
Much like pumpkins, these have a rapid germination time frame. There are tons of varieties available, and kids everywhere would love the fun shapes!
10. Cotton
Use this as a history lesson about the history of cotton in American agriculture. The plants grow extremely fast and are generally easy to maintain.
11. Potatoes
Potatoes are great for your household because they can be grown in almost any environment (I mean Mark Watney DID grow them on Mars in the film the Martian..) between February and May. There are several varieties!
12. Walking Stick Kale
Not only is Kale the latest and greatest super food, but at the end of it’s growing cycle, the stems provide a perfect walking stick for hikes.
