Like most gardeners, I love the summer months, but I dread them at the same time. Summer is my favorite, but I get bummed out when my shrubs and plants are no longer blooming and beautiful. But guess what? There’s a solution; these plants will bloom in the Summer months!
Garden Pholox is known for it’s beautiful purple color and it’s ability to bloom even into the fall months. However, keep an eye out for any mildew and/or fungi diseases, Pholox is known for developing them.
Perennial Salvia looks a little bit like wild lavender. The “May Night” variety of salvia is known for it’s cold-hardy capabilities and long blooming Summer flowers. Some varieties even bloom into the summer months!
As I was growing up, my grandma always had a yellow ice plant in her backyard, and although it’s TERRIBLE for the plant, I always loved to walk barefoot on it! Ice plant makes for a gorgeous ground cover. However, you should be warned, ice plant can get to be extremely invasive!
Coneflower sports impressive blooms that last throughout the Summer months, but that’s not all this plant is good for! Coneflower is extremely drought intolerant, and will bloom regardless of the amount of moisture.
Butterfly Bush is known for being a pretty invasive plant, but that shouldn’t stop you from growing it! If you love the look of the Butterfly Bush, pick the “blue chip” variety. It was specially modified to not be an invasive plant.
If your yard needs a summer-long bloom of color, try planting Black Eyed Susan. The flowers are incredibly low maintenance, which is perfect for gardeners who want something a little easier to maintain.
Autumn Joy flowers come in a variety of colors: red, yellow, orange, or pink. Autumn Joy is named because it typically waits to bloom until the late-Summer months. It’s no wonder why it’s called “Autumn Joy.”
Speedwell is a gorgeous flower that will bloom in the late Summer months if you follow this guide from The Farmer’s Almanac.
Dalmatian Bellflowers are probably one of my favorite flowers that are featured in this article. This plant will amaze you by blooming for months on end (literally!) prepare to be amazed.
Yarrow plants require almost no maintenance and come in a variety of colors from white to deep red. Yarrow also hosts a variety of medicinal properties!
