I love growing peonies, and they’re one of my favorite things to watch grow. Peonies are a Springtime favorite in my home, and they’re surprisingly easy to grow! This guide will help you grow them in almost any climate!
Grow Zone: Does best in zones 3-8
Water and Sun Needs: Partial sun, water deeply every 7 days (if rainfall is lacking)
Average Size:1-8 feet tall, 2-3 feet wide.
Plant Type: Perennial
Special Features: This is a low maintenance plant, requiring little water. Expect gorgeous blooms that produce stunning cut flowers!
How to Get Started: When planting your peonies, make sure that they’re in an area of well-drained soil. Make sure you give the peony a deep enough hole to grow in. It should be at least two feet deep, and two feet wide.
When to Harvest: You can cut blooms as soon as you see fit. After cutting, these plants can do well in room temperature water with a teaspoon of vodka to keep fresh for a week.
What to Plant It With: Peonies bloom in a host of different colors with fragrant blooms. Use peonies in a variety of different colors as the “background” element of your flower garden.
